TheglobalexpansionofjudicialpowersmakesnoexceptiontoAsia.MostnoticeableisthejudicialexpansionintandemwithunprecedentedpoliticalandlegalreformsthathaveoccurredinthetwoAsiannewdemocracies–TaiwanandSouthKorea.Havingsharedagreatdealofsimilaritiesincoloniallegacy,economicdevelopmentandglobalcompetition,bothTaiwanandSouthKoreabecamegoodexamplesoffast-growingeconomieswithsuccessfuldemocratictransitions.Inthecontextoftransition,CourtsinTaiwanandKoreaareexpectedtoindependentlyresolvedisputes,toplacechecksandbalancesonpoliticalpowers,andtosafeguardpeople’srightsandfreedoms.Thisbooklooksintocourt’sfunctioninconstitutional,regulatory,civil,commercial,andcriminalmattersbymakingTaiwanandKoreaincomparison.
